University open days - Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June
Thursday, 19 June 2014
This Friday and Saturday the University will be welcoming over 6,000 prospective students and their parents for the first of open days of 2014.
Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said: "These are by far the largest showcases we ever put on as a University and they are critical to undergraduate recruitment. I am even more excited than usual this year, because a number of new developments - large and small, central and departmental - will really make the University of Reading stand out for potential applicants."
Preparations are well underway and, as you may have already seen, we have some new additions this year:
- The Dome: An inflatable ‘dome system' will act as a registration area and a ‘University of Reading Expo', with every department and all key services represented, as well as Reading town itself
- Sessions which separate parents and students: These sessions offer prospective students the chance to spend more time with one another and current students, and offer parents the chance to ask the questions that particularly matter to them.
- Student Zone: 3sixty/RUSU will be a devoted student space, used for student life presentations and as showcase space for student societies.
- Parents' and Supporters' Zone: Ground floor rooms in Palmer will give parents/supporters the chance to get coffee, mingle with senior members of the University, and ask in-depth questions of staff from key services such as accommodation, careers and student financial support.
- Campus dressing: The external advertising campaign and new University visual identity has been translated into high-impact on-campus pieces. Way-finding across campus has also been improved and reflects key messages and the new look.
- Data capture: A new booking system for the days is allowing us to capture far more information on attendance and interests than ever before.
"These are visual representations of our ambition for Open Days, and indeed our ambition and vision as a University. But we know that for attendees, the personal touches make the biggest difference. Small things - a friendly conversation, the ‘feel' of a room, an inspiring demonstration - affect decisions, so your individual input really could change the course of someone's life. Whether you are directly involved or not, we're all University of Reading ambassadors on days like these."

Travel
A Friday open day always means challenges for traffic and parking. If there is any way of leaving the car at home and getting here by other means, it would be extremely helpful and may save you a frustrating journey. If you have to drive in, please consider parking at London Road.
