The University is delighted to announce that Dr Ben Cosh has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Science from 1 August 2014. Dr Cosh will move from his current role as Head of the School of Systems Engineering with the appointment lasting up to two years.
He replaces Professor George Marston as Dean, who is leaving the University after 19 years to become the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation at Northumbria University in August.
Dr Cosh said: "I am grateful to be moving into the role of Dean. The range of exciting new ventures in teaching and research across the Faculty show that staff are committed to transforming the University. I'm honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with them."
Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said: "The Faculty of Science has thriving, world-leading research and teaching. I am delighted Ben has been appointed and am looking forward to the strong leadership he can bring to the University's academic life."
As part of the Promoting Excellence Project the University has changed the way in which Heads of School are appointed.
We are now seeking to appoint a Head of School for Systems Engineering to take effect from 1 August 2014 and the appointment will be until 31 July 2018.
The Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty are seeking expressions of interest from staff within the School and across the University who are keen to develop their careers further by taking on an important managerial position.
