Research data management survey - have your say
Thursday, 03 July 2014
The University this week launches its Research Data @ Reading Survey and invites research staff and postgraduate researchers to take part.
A new initiative is underway in the University to develop a research data management service. This comes in response to calls from many public funding bodies for researchers and Universities to open up the data they generate, so that other researchers can validate published findings and re-use data to arrive at new insights.
The University is in the early stages of building a service, which will enable researchers to manage their research data effectively, and where possible to share data of long-term value. Dr Robert Darby has recently been appointed to lead activities in this area over the next three years.
We are now seeking input from researchers about their use of research data and the support they need to manage their data and comply with funders' requirements. This survey is an opportunity for researchers to have their say in how a research data management service should evolve.
Professor George Marston, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chair of the Research Data Management Steering Group, comments: ‘I am delighted that with Robert's appointment the University is now able to start building a much-needed research data management service. In the modern research economy data are assets of great value to researchers and to the University. We all have a responsibility to manage them with care. I would encourage research staff and students to complete the survey. This is your opportunity to shape the service to the needs of your research community.'
