Staff to reap the benefit of IT reorganisation
Wednesday, 30 July 2014
The provision of IT support across the University is changing to create a new central IT function providing support across a range of systems and services to all parts of the University.
This will deliver benefits to Schools and Services through:
- Quality partnerships and customer driven service
- Professional IT service management
- Technology innovation
The majority of the appointments to the new structure will be completed by the 1st August 2014 and will take effect from the 1st September 2014 and will then enter a transition period. During this time additional resource has been identified to ensure that the process is smooth and that current services continue to be delivered.
The new service will be organised into three separate areas:
- Business Engagement and Transformation
- Application Development
- Service Desk and Infrastructure Management
There are changes to the services and the way in which they are provided. Most requests from users will be submitted to the Service Desk, which will have more capability and responsibility for resolving problems quickly and at the first point of contact.
A Specialist User Support team will provide services to colleagues, from desktop support to specialist IT provision of technology solutions.
To ensure that there is increased engagement with Schools and Services, a new team of IT Business Partners has been created and will ensure that the views and interests of IT customers are represented.
The newly formed Research Server and Data Management team who will be providing specialist services to the research community, such as data storage and data management advice. The Specialist Teaching and Research Support team (STaRS) will provide bespoke services, such as programming advice to researchers and students. Blackboard and other Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) services will be provided by the new TEL and AV team that will support the development of new TEL services.
