'Congratulations to both Ciara and Cathy on their well-deserved appointments'
Two members of academic staff in the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences have recently secured high-profile external appointments.
Professor Cathy Creswell has been appointed as a Research Fellow of the NHS National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) - an award worth more than £1.2m over five years.
The NIHR makes only five such awards a year, which are aimed to support candidates who are 'on course to becoming the country's most outstanding research leaders'. Professor Creswell is the first psychologist to receive one of these awards.
The award will allow her to better understand why some children with anxiety disorders have difficulty accessing evidence based treatments and why others do not respond as well as predicted to treatments.
Meanwhile, Dr Ciara McCabe was elected to the Council of the British Association of Psychopharmacology (BAP). BAP promotes research and education in psychopharmacology and related areas, and brings together people in academia, health services, and industry.
Dr McCabe, who moved to Reading from Oxford last year, aims to use her position on the BAP Council to increase the profile of the excellent psychopharmacology research at the University of Reading.
Professor Laurie Butler, head of the school of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences, said: "Very many congratulations to both Ciara and Cathy on their well-deserved appointments. Their achievements reflect their outstanding research work, and provides more evidence of Reading's leading status as a centre for the study of the human mind."
