Reading voted best university green space in the UK for the fourth year running

Friday, 17 October 2014

University of Reading's Whiteknights campus has been voted among the best and most popular green spaces in the UK for the fourth year and has retained its position as number six in the UK out of almost 1,500 green spaces entered into the 2014 Green Flag People's Choice Award. Our campus remains the only university campus in the top 10.

All Green Flag Award winning parks and green spaces were entered into the annual poll with the public asked to vote for their favourite.

We have received our fourth Green Flag Award earlier this year in recognition of our well-maintained and well-managed campus.

The Green Flag Award scheme is the benchmark standard for parks and green spaces in the UK and is run by Keep Britain Tidy. Ground management, innovation and the way facilities are tailored to the needs of the community are taken into account.

Giles Reynolds, Heads of Grounds, said, "I am delighted. We have 19 ground staff who work hard to maintain our grounds and help make it such a great place to work, study and visit. This recognition is testament to their dedication. Thank you to everyone who voted."
