Vice-Chancellor's address to Senate - October 2014

Vice-Chancellor, Sir David Bell gave his address to Senate on 22 October 2014, providing members of Senate with an update on external and internal developments.
Highlights included
- Universities UK's Back Universities Campaign ahead of the 2O15 general election, which highlights three areas for politicians to focus on: research and innovation; international students and immigration; and student funding;
- The University of Reading's strong recruitment for 2014 entry, despite increased competition across the sector, in particular for high-achieving students starting their undergraduate studies; and
- Updates on the research strategy, 2015-16 Access Agreement, league tables and fundraising work.
Senate is one of the three main bodies that deliver the governance of the University. Reporting to the Council and meeting at least four times a year, Senate advises on areas such as student entry, assessment and awards. With around 100 members, Senate comprises Deans, Heads and selected representatives of Schools, as well as staff and students.
David Bell and other University Executive Board members will be hosting the final autumn ‘Ask the Board' on 3 November 2014 at 13:00-14:00 at Madejski lecture theatre, Agriculture building, Whiteknights.
