An evening at the House of Lords

Friday, 31 October 2014

Alumni at House of Lords

Jon Harvey (BA Psychology 1980), Dr Drew Alcott (BA Psychology 1980) and guests

'It was a wonderful evening and a great opportunity for me to connect with many of our alumni who, I hope, will be working with our department in the future.' Guja Bandini, Alumni Volunteering Officer

We were delighted to welcome over 300 alumni and guests to the House of Lords for our annual alumni reception. The weather proved very kind, allowing guests to venture onto the terrace and enjoy the fabulous view of London at night. With music provided by Formation, the University's resident band, a well-received speech from the Vice-Chancellor, tours for all guests, an endless supply of delicious canapés and plenty of wine, the event was a huge success and a great opportunity for networking and socialising.

Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said: ‘The warm and positive atmosphere was palpable as our alumni - many joining us for the first time at the event - enjoyed meeting each other and colleagues from the University. The House of Lords is, of course, a spectacular venue and that is - rightly -another big draw. Credit too must go to Formation, our student ensemble, for contributing to the ambience of the evening.'

Guja Bandini, Alumni Volunteering Officer, said: ‘Having attended this event as an alumnus I was very excited to be able to attend as a member of staff. It was a wonderful evening and a great opportunity for me to connect with many of our alumni who, I hope, will be working with our department in the future.'

This reception is part of our overall alumni engagement programme. This event in particular encourages a great range of attendees from all years and disciplines, from those who are very engaged to those who are attending an event for the first time, and so it is a wonderful chance for staff to interact with a broad range of alumni.

It is also an opportunity for us to celebrate those who financially support the University as it fell in Donor Pin Week and we encouraged our alumni donors to wear their pins with pride! We have received wonderful feedback and would like to thank those staff members who supported this event.
