A systems Engineering Student is part of a team to create a headset to help blind people navigate cities.
Microsoft, in partnership with Guide Dogs for the Blind and Future Cities Catapult, has launched a new type of system that aims to improve the experience for blind people. Blindness is a condition that affects 39 million people world-wide.
Catalin Doroftei, currently studying for a BSc in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Cybernetics at the School of Systems Engineering, carried out his Industrial Year with Microsoft and worked on the project from the design stage. Catalin's primary role was to ensure that the system's technology is hidden from the user to create a seamless experience, providing the best information at the appropriate time.
