Dean and daughter at our winter graduation
Tuesday, 16 December 2014
Last week, nearly 2,300 students graduated as part of the winter graduation ceremonies. Nine ceremonies were held on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 December in the Great Hall on the University's London Road campus.
Many members of staff gavetheir time voluntarily to help at the ceremonies, from marshalling and stewarding to manning the information desk. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
Graduation last Thursday was a particularly special day for Professor Richard Ellis. As Dean of Life Science, he had the pleasure of presenting all of his faculty's candidates for graduation and one of them was his daughter, Rosemary Ellis (Rosie) who graduated with an MSc in Wildlife Management and Conservation. The VC announced to the congregation, as he congratulated her, that they were father and daughter, which brought a further round of applause.
"It's not every day that a Dean gets to present his daughter to the Vice-Chancellor as a graduand! Rosie had had a very enjoyable, and naturally challenging, year on the MSc Wildlife Management and Conservation programme in the School of Biological Sciences. Her graduation was a wonderful occasion for which we are most grateful."
