Wednesday, 11 February 2015
Graeme Stephens, professor of Earth Observation in the Department of Meteorology, was elected last week to membership of the US National Academy of Engineering, in recognition of his contributions to elucidation of the Earth's cloud system and radiation balance. (Graeme simultaneously holds the role of Director of the Center for Climate Sciences, at the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena.)
Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer in the US. Academy membership honours those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature," and to the "pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education." Congratulations Graeme on this very prestigious and well-deserved recognition.
