Our HEFE grant allocation for 2015-16
Thursday, 26 March 2015
Today (Thursday 26 March) the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has announced next year's grant allocation for all higher education institutions. Our total annual allocation is £25.2m which is made up of £5.8m teaching funding, £17.5m research funding and £2m knowledge exchange funding.
The teaching funding has decreased because HEFCE now provides less funding to teaching under the new £9,000 fee structure and our teaching allocation reflects the transition from the old fee and funding regime to the new one.
The majority of research funding is now based on our Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 results. Our total research funding has increased by around £450,000 to £17.45m primarily through increases in mainstream quality related research (QR) and Research Degree Programme (RDP) supervision funding.
We have also received a supplement £300,000 for RDP supervision, which recognises the real-terms decline in funding rates for research students in recent years.
HEFCE continues to recognise the extra costs associated with recruiting and supporting specific groups of students namely those from disadvantaged backgrounds; disabled students and students at risk of not continuing their studies. This year, there is increased funding to support disabled students and, as result, our student opportunity funding has increased by £50,000 to almost £1m.
A comprehensive briefing with more detailed information including funding by REF unit of assessment will be sent to University Executive Board (UEB), Deans, Faculty Directors of Research, ADTLs, and Heads of School and Heads of Function.
