BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) conference at RUSU
Tuesday, 19 May 2015
Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) invite University of Reading staff to their BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) conference which will take place on Monday 1 June 2015 13.00-15.00.
The conference aims to inspire academics to understand and address the BAME Attainment Gap. Speakers will provide their invaluable experience in tackling the Attainment Gap so that students and staff have practical solutions that they can implement in the creation of a more inclusive teaching environment.
The conference will benefit from the perspective of academics and students from across the UK including:
- Deborah Gabriel (Founder and CEO of Black British Academics)
- Helen Barefoot (University of Hertfordshire)
- Dawn Livingston (UCU Equality Black Officer)
- NUS representative (TBC)
- Robiu Salisu (Swansea Students’ Union, BAME Part-time Officer)
- Students from Reading University Politics Society
RUSU hope the conference will have an immediate positive impact on the student experience by increasing the extent to which students are able to engage and succeed academically at the University of Reading. By engaging with this conference, RUSU hopes that staff will be inspired to reflect on current teaching practices and develop innovative new approaches. This will ensure that every student, regardless of their cultural background, can fully immerse themselves in the student experience and excel academically.
The event will be filmed by RU:ON so if you are unable to attend there will be a video available to view after the event.
Please RSVP to educationofficer@rusu.co.uk with any dietary or access requirements.
