New Dean of Diversity and Inclusion
Tuesday, 26 May 2015
The focus of the summer Ask the Board sessions last week was diversity and inclusion and the Vice-Chancellor announced a new Dean of Diversity and Inclusion who will work across all three priority areas with an immediate focus on the submission for Athena SWAN Bronze re-accreditation in spring 2016.
The UEB champions for the University’s priority areas of gender (Professor Robert Van de Noort), race (Vincenzo Raimo) and sexual orientation and gender reassignment (Sir David Bell) were joined by Dianne Berry (Dean of Postgraduate Research and diversity and inclusion strategy group chair) and Tilly Corless (Welfare Officer at RUSU), who discussed RUSU’s new policy on zero tolerance on sexual harassment.
They outlined in detail the scale of the very real challenges that the University faces in the three priority areas of gender, race and sexual orientation and the work required to address them for both staff and students.
Sir David Bell, the Vice-Chancellor, commented: “We need to make better and faster progress. This requires a substantial rethink in our approach to diversity and inclusion. Nothing is off the table.”
To support the new Dean, the University will also appoint a diversity and inclusion support officer. An advert for role will go on the jobs board shortly.
The University welcomes applications from across the organisation for both posts, including applications for flexible working and or job-shares.
