National Bike Week 13-21 June
Tuesday, 16 June 2015
Next week is National Bike Week so the perfect week to get ‘on your bike'. There are lots of ways in which you can get involved, particularly if you work on the Whiteknights Campus.
Wednesday 17 June at 1pm - Guided Lunchtime Ride
To celebrate bike week we are organising a guided lunchtime ride on Wednesday 17 June at 1pm - this ride will go off campus for a short tour into Earley and Lower Earley. There may even be refreshments included. Suitable for any adult who can ride a bike as instruction will be available for those not currently confident on the roads. Please register your interest in participating by emailing travel@reading.ac.uk to find out where we're meeting. You can bring your own bike or take part on a Readybike.
Wednesday 17 June - Dr Bike on Whiteknights Campus
Get your bike checked out for with Dr Bike's last visit to campus before September. Outside Palmer 10am - 2pm Wednesday 17 June. You could get your bike checked over before going on the guided ride.
Ride for Reading in the national cycling challenge: Love to Ride
Don't forget to log all the cycling you're doing as part of the University's team effort. If you haven't already signed up it's still not too late to do so! Organisations from around the UK and their departments and staff are all invited to take part in the National Cycle Challenge. A fun and free competition to see who can get the most people riding a bike. You can ride anywhere, anytime during the 3 week Challenge.
People only need to ride for just 10 minutes to take part! You can win some fantastic prizes including a trip for two to New Zealand, new bikes, bike gear, holidays around the UK, and more (see all prizes)! Check out the website for more info and to get involved - www.lovetoride.net/reading. How many people in your department can get on a bike for 10 minutes?
Readybike Competition
Didn't get a chance to enter the Readybike competition for a free annual membership at their birthday event on campus? Well don't worry you can still enter a competition to win by following them on twitter and retweeting them.
Beat the street
Finally don't forget that Beat the Street is still running, and you're allowed to cycle between the beat boxes to collect points. We've faced stiff competition from many of the local schools this year but there's still time to improve our score before the competition closes on 24 June. This weekend to celebrate the Whiteknights Studio Trail Beat Box 156 by the lake on the campus will be worth double points.http://reading.beatthestreet.me/
