New academic contracts
Wednesday, 01 July 2015
In April we informed staff that we would be providing academic staff with new contracts of employment as part of the Charter Reform project. Since then we have been busy consulting with UCU and the Staff Forum and will be seeking the Council's approval of these contracts at its next meeting in July.
There will be no substantive changes to contractual rights and contractual benefits such as notice, pay, pension, sick pay and holiday entitlement will be unchanged.
We are providing a sample contract to members of staff for their information along with an explanation of proposed new or changed clauses.
Please note that there may be further changes subject to the conclusion of discussions with UCU and any comments made by the Senate and the Council.
Academic staff (lecturers, associate professors and professors) will be issued with their own contract in July which we will be asking them to sign and return before 1 August 2015. Other members of staff will be issued with new contracts in due course.
New employment policies will be published at the same time as the employment contract. This follows the removal of the Statutes, which has now been approved by the Privy Council, along with the changes to the University's Charter. We have consulted on the employment policies with UCU and the Staff Forum and they have been approved by the University's Council; they will be available for staff online shortly.
There will be drop in sessions with Professor Robert Van De Noort and John Brady during July in order to give staff the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have about the new contract.
If you have questions or queries on the new employment contract in the meantime please read the FAQs on the project web page or contact Nicola Johnson in Human Resources.
