The new University of Reading Malaysia Campus at EduCity Iskandar

The new University of Reading Malaysia Campus at EduCity Iskandar will open its doors to its first students on 15 September 2015.

Following a presentation to the University Council, Professor Tony Downes, Provost of University of Reading Malaysia, delivered a lunchtime update on the new campus to Whiteknights staff on 14 July 2015.

The presentation included a review of the achievements over the last year in Malaysia, the senior management and academic structure, an outline of initial programmes and student success to date and concluded with a short film showcasing the landmark building.

Professor Downes then answered a range of questions posed by attendees which included:

• plans for future programmes
• timescales for bringing programmes from proposal to delivery
• when the campus is expected to break even and what will be the financial arrangement between Malaysia and the UK
• opportunities for expansion at EduCity
• ways of encouraging student mobility between Malaysia and the UK (and vice versa)
• opportunities for a level of staff mobility
• the Malaysian accreditation system and impact of changes to UK programmes on those also delivered at UoRM
