Closing the Gender Pay Gap consultation

Wednesday, 12 August 2015

University shield

The Government Equalities Office has issued a document, Closing the Gender Pay Gap, for consultation across the UK and the University wishes to take an active role in this consultation. Our response will be prepared by Prof Ellie Highwood, Dean of Diversity and Inclusion and Rachel Thorns, HR Partner and supported by the UEB Champion for Gender, PVC Professor Robert Van de Noort.

We welcome ideas and suggestions for closing the gender pay gap at the University, and any specific observations arising from the consultation document, for inclusion in our institutional response. If you would like to provide input, you can read the document on the Government’s website - Closing the Gender Pay Gap

Please email your comments to Sarah Nolan, s.n.nolan@reading.ac.uk, by 24 August, so that our response can be submitted before the Government’s deadline in early September.

Equality and diversity are key issues for the University and we take our responsibilities seriously. Our recent analysis shows the gender pay gap at the University is small across grades 1-8 but considerable at grade 9 and professorial level. UEB will shortly be discussing proposals from the Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Group, chaired by Professor Dianne Berry, which includes initiatives and explicit targets for closing the gender pay gap. The latest Equality Monitoring Report 2013/14 is available on the University's HR website and provides further details of the gender salary gap across the grades and other relevant information.
