Welcome Week 2015
Monday, 21 September 2015
Our newest students started arriving at the weekend and during Welcome Week, we are aiming to provide a great experience for them that will make them feel truly welcome. The free Campus Carnival on Saturday and Sunday created an atmosphere of celebration, as well as giving new arrivals a chance to settle in, make friends and enjoy their first weekend away from home.
Our friendly security staff and student helpers were on hand at every entrance to greet and welcome in our newest students, making sure they knew where to go and what to do during this very busy and exciting time. Once on campus, our first years were received into their new homes with check-ins at the Palmer building and several of the halls, making sure they had everything they needed to take the first steps into officially becoming Reading students. Finally, the JCRs took care of their new students by making sure everyone was formally welcomed into the University with their accommodation talks at The Dome.
There are lots of activities going on around campus during this week too.
The timetable for the week is as follows:
- Monday: VC/ RUSU welcome, followed by welcome in Schools and personal tutor meetings
- Tuesday: Programme inductions followed by the Module Fair
- Wednesday: Joint Honours events centrally and in Schools
- Friday: Teambuilding in Schools
On Wednesday 30 September, we will be holding Reading Experience Day, an event for students in all years, providing opportunities to engage in activities that, alongside their academic studies, can help develop skills and employability. This event has been moved out of welcome week itself this year to give all our students more opportunity to attend.
We wish all our new students an enjoyable and successful time at the University of Reading.
If you see a newcomer to campus looking lost, please do your best to welcome them and help them find the place they’re looking for.
