PAS review update: message from the Vice-Chancellor
Friday, 09 October 2015
Colleagues
The University has written today to our trade union UCU, copied to colleagues on our local Staff Forum, to signal the beginning of formal discussions about the implementation of the PAS review, including the impact on professional and administrative jobs across the University.
This is the beginning of detailed discussions about how and when we will transfer the majority of our support work into new central services.
Good progress is being made in each of the seven work-streams. For example, this week the UEB received a presentation about a proposed structure for Teaching and Learning Operations, a new function that will be located within Student and Applicant Services.
I am also pleased to report that last week we appointed our new Head of Technical Services, Dr Karen Henderson, following an internal-only recruitment process.
UEB has agreed that until further notice all relevant vacancies will be recruited internally-only in the first instance, to ensure that existing colleagues have the first and best opportunity to apply for posts as they emerge in the new services.
Much more will follow shortly, and alongside the formal discussions with staff representatives you will receive a further update later this month. This will include information about progress towards the new structures, practical support being put in place for staff and confirmation of further opportunities to express an interest in voluntary redundancy.
Should you have any immediate queries about this, please direct them to either John Brady or Claire Rolstone in the first instance.
Sir David Bell KCB
Vice-Chancellor
