Funeral details for Professor Alexei Likhtman

Thursday, 29 October 2015

Alexei Likhtman

Alexei Likhtman, Professor of Mathematical Physics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, died on 11 October 2015 following a fall while hiking in Maryland, USA.

His funeral will take place on Monday, 2 November, at Easthamstead Park Cemetery and Crematorium, South Road, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire RG40 3DW.

The service will start at 3pm, followed by the burial and the wake. Anyone who would like to is very welcome to attend.

The cemetery is not easy to reach by public transport, so if anyone requires transport, or if anyone who will be driving can offer lifts, please contact Ruth Harris (r.m.harris@reading.ac.uk).

To commemorate Alexei, a special fund has been set up to promote teaching and research activities in the fields of polymer physics and rheology in the UK, to acknowledge the contribution of young scientists in the field with some prizes or scholarships.

The family have asked if instead of bringing flowers to the funeral, anyone who is interested should instead make a small donation via https://alumni.reading.ac.uk/alexeilikhtman to support this initiative.

Peta-Ann King (p.king@reading.ac.uk) is putting together a book of remembrance for Alexei, to give to his family so that they can look back at fond memories of his work life.  If you would like to add a message then please email Peta so your message can be included appropriately.
