New School of Architecture will call upon industry experts to offer hands-on learning experience
Thursday, 19 November 2015
Following the official launch of the new School of Architecture, it has been announced that the first cohort of students will receive hands-on experience led by world-class architects and industry experts.
Opening in September 2016, students will work alongside professional architects on live projects, allowing them to gain significant exposure to the standards of creative design and collaborative practices exhibited in the industry today.
The new School of Architecture will be housed in the current School of Construction Management and Engineering (also known as the ‘Lego building') on Whiteknights campus. Earlier this year, Hawkins\Brown was appointed to refurbish the building in preparation for the new School.
In addition to the refurbishment, Hawkins\Brown will be offering Reading architecture students a Live Learning Laboratory. The facility will allow students to engage with the refurbishment as a live project and understand the building though its development. Hawkins\Brown will also periodically share their experience with students through lectures and on-site visits.
The School of Architecture was launched formally on Tuesday 17 November at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Academics and industry professional gathered in celebration one year ahead of the School’s first intake of students. Since the new School was announced in January 2015, the University has been working hard to develop the curriculum, recruit staff and prepare for the incoming 40 students arriving next September.
