M4 to close week beginning 30 November between 21:30 and 06:00
Tuesday, 24 November 2015
Staff should note that the M4 will be closed from 30 November to 4 December between 21:30 and 06:00, subject to weather conditions and M4 traffic flows. The closure forms part of the construction of the Shinfield Eastern Relief Road currently being built by the University in tandem with the forthcoming Thames Valley Science Park.
Construction has reached a significant point in which the next phase can only be completed while the M4 is temporarily closed. During this period, 12 weathering steel beams will be placed onto recently completed bridge abutments across 30 Nov, 1 Dec and 2 Dec.
Staff looking to travel during this time should plan their journeys accordingly in order to avoid any potential disruption. The following diversion routes will be in place:
Eastbound traffic
Exit the M4 at junction 11, travel along the B3270 to Black Boy roundabout. Continue straight ahead on the B3270 (Lower Earley Way) to the Showcase roundabout. Take the 2nd exit (straight ahead) onto the A3290, then join the A329(M) and re-join the M4 eastbound at junction 10.
Westbound traffic
Exit the M4 at junction 10, travel along the A329(M) towards Reading, then join the A3290 towards the Showcase roundabout. At the Showcase roundabout take the 2nd exit (straight ahead) and continue on the B3270 (Lower Earley Way). Travel along the B3270 and at Black Boy roundabout continue straight ahead to re-join the M4 at junction 11.
The Shinfield Eastern Relief Road is being constructed by HOCHTIEF (UK) Construction on behalf of the University. The Eastern Relief Road will be a single carriageway road running eastwards in an arc from a new bridge over the M4. It will head north towards a new roundabout allowing access to the future Thames Valley Science Park.
