Christmas events at the University of Reading

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on campus. Staff and students are warmly invited to join the festivities, which take place from 1 December onwards.
CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS SWITCH ON
Tuesday 1 December, 6.00 pm
Palmer Quad, Whiteknights campus
Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell will be joined by RUSU President Oli Ratcliffe to turn on our Christmas tree lights. The University of Reading chamber choir will sing carols, which you are all welcome to join in with! The event should last around 30 minutes or so and is free to attend. All are welcome.
LUNCHTIME CHRISTMAS FAIRTRADE FAIR
Wednesday 2 December, 12:00pm–2:00pm
Palmer Foyer, Whiteknights campus
Come along and browse a selection of ethical and locally-sourced/made Christmas gifts, including jewellery, clothing, confectionery and crafts. Shoppers will also be able to enjoy a free cup of warm spiced apple punch. All money taken will be donated equally between Macmillan Cancer Care and the Berkshire Air Ambulance. The fair has been organised by the Chaplaincy, and you can find out more information over on the event Facebook page.
WINTER CONCERT 2015
Saturday 5 December, 7.30pm
Great Hall, London Road campus
Join the University of Reading Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Chamber Choir as they perform Beethoven’s 'Symphony no.8,' followed by a selection of festive choral works by composers including Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Warlock and Holst. Of course, Christmas carols will also be performed, and guests are welcome to sing along with the chorus and chamber choir. Conductors for the performance will be Samuel Evans and Paul Cox.

CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE
Monday 7 December, 6.00 pm
Great Hall, London Road campus
Celebrate Christmas with a candle-lit carol service in the historic setting of the University’s Great Hall. Our annual carol service is hosted by UoR and University Chaplaincy, with readings by staff and students. The Chaplaincy selects two charities to support each year, and the organisations chosen this year are ReadiFood and Hand in Hand for Syria.
Admission is free and is open to staff, students and the wider university community (please note that priority is given to staff and students). You must register to confirm your attendance- staff and students can do so here.
RUSU TOYS AND TEEN APPEAL DONATIONS
There is still time to make a donation to the Toys and Teen Appeal currently taking place at Student Activities, RUSU. The appeal collects toys and gifts for children and teenagers in Reading who otherwise may not receive something at Christmas.
The appeal is asking for any of the possible items:
Entertainment: Books, Toys, Games, Jigsaw Puzzles, DVDs, Craft Items (including colouring & sketch books, pens, pencils, crayons), Cuddly Toys, High Street vouchers, Chocolate Selection Boxes.
Clothes and Accessories: Baby and Toddler Clothes (up to 3 years), Hats, Gloves & Scarves, Accessories for teenage boys and girls, Make-Up, Toiletries, Toiletry/Make-Up bags, Jewellery Bags.
The following cannot be accepted: Video or Audio Cassettes, Baby Equipment, Clothes for older children, Computer Games, Educational Scheme Reading or Workbooks, Food items (except chocolates), Electrical Items.
Please take your donations to the Student Activities Centre by Sunday 6 December. Alternatively, a collection tin will be available if you wish to make a cash donation. All money donated will be used to buy toys for the appeal.
INCREASED STAFF DISCOUNT AT BLACKWELL’S
