Christmas closure: How Low Can You Go?

As you all know, the University will be closed for 11 days over the festive period. This presents a great opportunity to reduce our carbon emissions, and given that we approach our 35% carbon reduction target date in July 2016, this Christmas really could make the difference to whether we achieve it or not!

The campaign How Low Can You Go has been launched to challenge staff to reduce their building energy consumption to a new low by switching off anything that doesn’t need to remain on over Christmas. The Sustainability Team have produced an infographic for each of the buildings on Whiteknights campus, which can be found here. Each infographic highlights the lowest level of consumption ever recorded, along with tips on how energy levels can easily be reduced.

The results will be measured over the holiday period, and the building that reduces their consumption by the greatest percentage will have £2000 spent on it to increase its energy performance.

So remember before you leave this Christmas, switch off those computers, lights, water boilers and specialist pieces of equipment to ensure your building’s energy consumption goes as low as possible!
