Monday, 04 January 2016
Current Archaeology magazine has nominated Professor Roberta Gilchrist as 'Archaeologist of the Year' in their Current Archaeology Awards 2016. As a pioneer of social approaches to medieval archaeology, Roberta has published many influential studies on medieval nunneries, hospitals, castles, and burials. Her recent research on Glastonbury Abbey has attracted widespread attention in both the national press and academic communities.
In addition, Dr Hella Eckardt received a nomination for 'Book of the Year' following the publication of her latest book, Objects and Identities: Roman Britain in the North-Western Provinces. The book presents a series of compelling case studies in which artefacts help reveal their owner’s values and aspirations, with the book recently winning the Faculty of Science prize for best research output (2014-15).
Now in its eighth year, the Current Archaeology Awards celebrate noteworthy projects, publications and individuals that have made significant contributions to the field of archaeology. Each category winner is decided entirely by public vote, and so every vote counts. Click here to find out more about each award category, and cast your votes here.
Voting closes 8 February 2016, and the winners will be announced at the upcoming awards ceremony on 26 February at Current Archaeology Live! 2016.
