Get involved with Green Week, 8th to 12th February
Monday, 08 February 2016
Today marks the start of Green Week and to celebrate it, the University and RUSU have combined their efforts to put on an exciting schedule of events to appeal to both staff and students.
Green Week is an annual event which highlights the actions we can all take to improve our environment both locally and more widely. By reducing our carbon emissions, increasing the amount we recycle and travelling more sustainably, we can collectively make a big difference.
The full schedule of events can be found here; highlights include a screening of Pixar’s environmentally themed movie Wall-E on Tuesday evening, a ‘big dig’ in the Harris Gardens on Thursday, a debate hosted by RUSU during Friday lunchtime as well as a Blackout event on Friday evening to bring Green Week to a close. Staff and students are welcome to take part in all events.
We are also able to announce that our Vice-Chancellor, Sir David Bell, has allocated monies from a University prize fund for the 2015/16 academic year to enable students to undertake a project delivering environmental benefits, either on campus or in the local community. Individuals, groups or student societies are able to bid for a maximum of £1,000 to enable them to deliver the project.
The project can tackle any environmental issue that you feel is relevant. Imaginative and inventive ideas are encouraged as well as ones that engage a number of people.
Also, don’t forget to fill in the travel survey, it’s your opportunity to shape travel projects going forward. Everyone that fills it in will go into a prize draw to win 1 of 2 iPads so do take 15 minutes to have your say: please click here to complete the survey.
