Edith Morley Lecture: In conversation with Karen Blackett OBE
Tuesday, 01 March 2016
In honour of Edith Morley, we are delighted to present the upcoming lecture, ‘In conversation with Karen Blackett OBE, CEO of MediaCom UK’. The lecture takes place on Tuesday 8 March, Great Hall, London Road campus, 7.30pm, and forms part of our 90th anniversary celebrations.
In 2014, Karen Blackett became the first woman to top the PowerList 100 of most influential black Britons, and was awarded an OBE for services to the media communications industry. She continues to be an influential figure today.
This special event is in memory of Edith Morley, believed to be the first woman to be awarded the title professor in a British university. Appointed as Professor of English Literature at Reading in 1908, Professor Morley was dedicated to her subject, her students and her cause. She believed that women should have an equal place in academia and society, and was an inspiring and motivating force for the young people around her.
Over 100 years on, we are pleased to celebrate this extraordinary part of our heritage with this event to inspire young women today to achieve great things.
The lecture will also celebrate the launch of the first publication of Edith’s memoir, Before and After, which will be on sale at the event.
Admission is free, but you must register to attend in advance- please click here to register.
