Become a record breaker for our 90th anniversary
Thursday, 03 March 2016
On Thursday 17 March, the University of Reading celebrates its ninetieth anniversary.
On 17 March 1926, a Royal Charter was granted that enabled us to attain University status. When news of the Royal Charter was announced, our first Vice-Chancellor, Dr William Childs, was lifted into the air in celebration by students.
Inspired by this historic moment, we will be holding an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most simultaneous human cradle lifts’ during our lunchtime celebrations. We need your help to make the occasion even more memorable- come and break a world record with us!
In groups of three, staff and students will simultaneously perform a 'four-hand seat carry' in the presence of the Guinness World Record team. Watch the video here for more information. You can sign up either individually or as a group of three- don’t worry, there’ll be a chance to practice before the all-important record attempt!
To sign up, visit our 90th anniversary website and complete the short online form. You must be free between 12.30pm and 2.00pm on the day (Thursday 17 March). Registration for the world record attempt closes Thursday 10 March.
Details of all those who take part will be recorded in the University archives and everyone will receive a memento to take away with them.
Further details of our 90th anniversary celebrations can be found on our dedicated 90th anniversary website.
