Memorial tree planted for Pauline Donaldson

A Scarlet Oak has been planted in the Harris Garden in memory of Pauline Donaldson. Pauline worked within the Department of Horticulture for nearly twenty years, and was highly respected by her colleagues. After retiring, Pauline took up writing novels and books for young people.
A commemorative plaque has been placed beside the tree, which reads:
“This Scarlet Oak is in memory of Pauline Donaldson, secretary and administrator on the Department of Horticulture, 1982-2000, who had a lifelong love and deep knowledge of plants.”
“Pauline was an essential part of the Department of Horticulture for nearly twenty years,” says Trevor Pitman, School of Biological Sciences.
“As secretary, then administrator, she held everything together and was always a shoulder to cry on. She carried out everything with the utmost professionalism, expecting nothing in return. She was a truly lovely lady.”
Former colleagues, family and neighbours attended the planting.
