Professor Matthew Almond, Dean of Arts Humanities & Social Science, has been appointed by ministers to serve as a member of the British Pharmacopoeia Commission.
The British Pharmacopoeia Commission is a statuary committee established to prepare the British Pharmacopoeia on behalf of UK Health Ministers. The Commission plays a crucial role in advising Government, Parliament and legislative bodies on the technical aspects of pharmaceuticals, and safeguards the standards of quality control in medical products for human and veterinary use.
As a member of the committee, Professor Almond will join a panel of experts to provide advice on pharmaceutical practice and policy. Guidance provided by The British Pharmacopoeia Commission is a vital part of the system that protects both purchasers and users of medical products in the UK.
Speaking of the appointment, Professor Almond said: “I am delighted to be appointed to the British Pharmacopoeia where I can apply my knowledge of analytical chemistry to help in the important area of safeguarding the quality of medical products.
“I also wish to develop further links between the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (who oversee the British Pharmacopeia) and University of Reading, including postgraduate and undergraduate student projects.”
