IT to rollout next phase of remote access project from Wednesday 4 May
Friday, 29 April 2016
On Wednesday 4 May, Information Technology, in conjunction with our Business Systems teams in HR and Finance, are launching a new service to provide remote access to services that are currently only available when connected to the University wired network. The new service will provide a more secure way of accessing services remotely by using a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) system.
The new service is currently aimed at P2P approvers and some support staff within HR. Later, a second phase of the project will also give access to additional services- this phase is currently in the later stages of development, and more information will follow over the coming months. The service has been extensively tested to ensure that it is easy to use.
In addition to your staff username and password, the new MFA system will require users to register a smartphone or similar device so that a request can be sent to authenticate remote access. Users will be sent information to help set everything up.
This particular system has been chosen as it is simple to use and will offer better security to remote users. With this in place, we will not rely on a username and password system that could potentially be at risk from email Phishing attacks.
P2P users will be contacted by email shortly to confirm when the service is live and to provide information on its use and set-up. Please contact Anton Lawrence or Godswill Arum if you have any enquiries. Further information can be found on the Remote System Access project page here.
