Student EU referendum voter registration week, 16-20 May 2016
Monday, 16 May 2016
Today marks the start of Student EU referendum voter registration week, a national campaign designed to encourage students to vote in the EU referendum on Thursday 23 June.
From Monday 16 to Friday 20 May, the campaign will reach out to students across the UK with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of voting on 23 June. The campaign is jointly co-ordinated by Universities UK, National Union of Students and the Association of Colleges.
To be eligible to vote in the referendum, students must register to vote by Tuesday 7 June. As University staff, we all hold a responsibility to help spread the word to our students- please encourage as many students as possible to register to vote over the course of this week.
The EU referendum is set to become one of the most significant votes in the UK’s history. Students and young people have a right to vote for whether to stay or leave the EU, and it is vital that we encourage and support our student communities with making sure they are ready to cast their vote.
Please direct students to the Gov.Uk ‘Register to Vote’ page if they have not already registered.
In addition, Universities UK have prepared some helpful material to be shared with students- the material can be found here, including handy guides, posters and infographics.
