University chef reaches 2016 British BBQ Battle finals

Friday, 10 June 2016

Martin Wheeler 2016 British BBQ Battle

University chef Martin Wheeler will be sweating over a hot grill in hope of being crowned Champion at the 2016 British BBQ Battle.

The contest takes place on Wednesday 15 June at Blenheim Palace. As one of eight finalists, Martin will compete in the University category against fellow chef Ash Spencer of Westminster Kingsway College.

As part of a live cook-off, contestants must prepare a 3 course meal using a BBQ as the main method of cooking. Each menu will be cooked live in front of an audience, before being presented to a panel of 4 judges.

The judges will each be scoring the chefs not only on the taste and appearance of their final dishes, but on their BBQ cooking techniques too.

This year’s battle will also introduce the People’s Chef Award, a brand new category to be judged by spectators on the day.

Each finalist will receive several cooking gadgets and ingredients, with the Champion also taking home a top-of-the-range Crown Verity BBQ.

We wish Martin the very best of luck in the contest!
