Research publications advice and support available in the University Library
Thursday, 16 June 2016
Advice for researchers on all aspects of the publications process is available from the Research Publications Adviser, Karen Rowlett, based in the Library. The remit of this new role includes help and advice on finding the best place to publish your research outputs, Open Access, bibliometrics, altmetrics and researcher identity tools.
All staff and students now have access to two additional resources via the University Library, Scopus and SciVal.
The Scopus database is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and includes more than 21,800 titles from more than 5,000 international publishers.
SciVal, a research intelligence tool, is being used to provide the bibliometric data for University’s Research Outputs Support System (ROSS) for Research Divisions. SciVal is a powerful tool that can assist in making informed decisions on where to publish, developing a publications strategy, benchmarking a group’s or institution’s research outputs against those of others and for identifying possible opportunities for academic and commercial collaborations.
Training on the use of SciVal is being offered to all staff via People Development sessions (details and booking on ESS). The first sessions can be booked now and will take place during the summer vacation.
The Research Publications Adviser is also able to offer help, training and support with researchers’ digital profiles including ORCID identifiers, Google Scholar etc and tools such as Impact Story, Kudos and Publons. One-to-one sessions on managing your digital researcher profile and introduction to ORCID identifiers training sessions can be booked via ESS.
