Planning application submitted for St Patrick's Hall redevelopment
Tuesday, 28 June 2016
Planning application for the redevelopment of St Patrick's Hall has now been submitted to Reading Borough Council.
The major redevelopment seeks to increase the number of student rooms available from 300 to more than 1,000. The planning application was submitted to Reading Borough Council on 23 June following in-depth consultation with the local community, students and staff.
More and more students are coming to the University than ever before. One of the most noticeable effects of having a larger student population is that there simply isn’t enough on-site accommodation to go around. As a result, many students have had to seek alternative accommodation from private landlords.
The redevelopment seeks to address the growing need for more student accommodation, as we will be increasing the number of available rooms on campus.
Together with our accommodation partner UPP, the redevelopment of St Patrick's Hall is the next phase of a £275m investment into the improvement of our student halls accommodation. Our aim is to provide high quality accommodation and facilities to suit all student budgets. The St Patrick's Hall redevelopment will offer extensive social space and improved catering and retail facilities.
Colin Robbins, Director of Estates and Facilities said: "It is important that the University of Reading offers the high quality accommodation that matches our world-class teaching and research.
"In a competitive higher education market, we must provide a greater range of affordable accommodation to students and delivering this project with our accommodation partner UPP will ensure this."
