Nominations now open for one non-academic colleague to join the University Council

Thursday, 30 June 2016

Nominations for University Council

Nominations are now open for one eligible member of non-academic staff to be elected into the University Council.

We are seeking nominations, proposed and seconded by any eligible member of Grade 1 – 5 staff.

Nominations should be sent via email to the Returning Officer (the University Secretary, Dr Richard Messer) no later than Monday 18 July 2016, 12:00pm.

It must be clearly stated that the consent of the nominee has been obtained.

If more than two nominations are proposed and seconded, an election will be held in which all eligible members of Grade 1 – 5 staff would be able to vote. At this stage, candidates would be required to provide a short manifesto of no more than 250 words.

The timetable for the election is as follows:

  • Friday 1 July: Notice of election
  • Monday 18 July: Nominations to be received by 12:00pm

If we need to hold an election, the University Secretary will contact nominees to submit their manifestos by 12:00pm on Thursday 21 July.

  • Monday 25 July: Voting commences
  • Monday 8 August: Voting closes at 5:00pm

The Council is the University's executive governing body and meets at least four times each academic year. It sets out our strategic direction, ensures compliance with statutory requirements and approves constitutional changes.

The Council is ultimately responsible for managing the University's estate, finance and staff, with much of the detailed work falling to sub-committees.

A broad representation of lay members, drawn from commercial, community and professional organisations, provide the Council with a valuable perspective.

If you have any queries, please contact Dr Richard Messer.
