University of Reading Prevent policy statement

The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places an obligation on the University to ´┐¢in the exercise of its functions, have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism´┐¢. This is known as the Prevent duty.

While we are committed to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our community, encouraging debate and discussion, and upholding freedom of speech, it has to be balanced with the legal obligations placed upon us.´┐¢

The University has prepared a Prevent Policy Statement containing a process for reporting concerns relating to Prevent. The Statement can be viewed here.

We ask all members of staff to familiarise themselves with the Policy Statement.

If you have any questions, please contact Julie Rowe for more.
