2017/18 tuition fees may rise following proposed Government legislation

Since 1 September 2012, all full-time UK/EU undergraduates studying at the University of Reading have been charged tuition fees of £9,000 per year– the statutory maximum cap set by the UK government. 

Ministers have proposed to raise the statutory maximum cap in England by £250 to £9,250 per year for full-time UK/EU undergraduates in the 2017/18 academic year.

Should Parliament pass this legislation, UEB have taken a decision that the University of Reading will:

• charge £9,250 a year tuition fees for all new UK/EU undergraduates enrolling in 2017/18.
• fix this £9,250 a year tuition fee for the full course duration of each new UK/EU undergraduate enrolling in 2017/18.

Tuition fees will remain at £9,000 a year for all existing UK/EU undergraduates enrolling before 2017/18*, those deferring entry to 2017/18 and those retaking academic years in 2017/18. This will remain fixed for these students’ full course duration.

The new £9,250 tuition fee level for all new UK/EU undergraduates enrolling in 2017/18 would be fully covered by a loan from the Student Loan Company, in line with its published repayment terms and conditions. 

Eligible University of Reading students would still be able to apply for our bursary, scholarship and finance support programmes.

The statutory maximum level for tuition fees for UK/EU students enrolling in 2018/19 and subsequent years have not be set yet by the UK government.
