9 out of 10 students would recommend University of Reading to others

Reading students have overwhelmingly said that they would recommend coming to the University to others, according to the 2016 National Student Survey published on today, with a 91% score.

Overall satisfaction among respondents was 87%, which is above the sector average of 86% for the fifth consecutive year. Results for individual questions on teaching, organisation and management, and personal development all met or exceeded national averages for 2016.

Satisfaction levels in assessment and feedback have improved in 2016, with marking and feedback rising two percentage points compared to 2015 and up 9% and 12% compared to 2011.

Key findings:

• 91% of students would recommend the University to others.
• 87% overall satisfaction for the University – above the sector at 85%.
• 83% satisfaction with the Students' Union (RUSU) - above the sector at 69%.
• The University is above the sector average for overall satisfaction for teaching (88% compared to 87%). 91% of students say staff are good at explaining their subject and 89% that they are enthusiastic about what they are teaching; and 88% that the course is intellectually stimulating.
• Overall satisfaction for feedback and assessment has risen a further one percentage point year-on-year - to 71%. It has risen five percentage points since 2012. Marking criteria has risen for the fifth consecutive year to 76%; 77% of students said assessment and marking arrangements are fair; and promptness of feedback has risen by 12% since 2011 to 70%.

Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) was given an 83% overall satisfaction which continues to score well above the sector average of 69%.
