Health & Life Sciences Building: temporary road closure and enabling works
Wednesday, 11 January 2017
A section of road will temporarily close from Thursday 12 January until Friday 27 January.
The road will be closed from the boiler house to the area adjacent to car park 12, next to the Engineering Building, Whiteknights campus.
Car Park 13 (in front of the Harborne Building) will remain open but will be accessible via an alternative route: turning left at the Pepper Lane entrance roundabout, take the first right and follow the road all the way round past Hopkins and Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) to Harborne and car park 13.
The activity forms part of the University’s plans for a new Health & Life Sciences Building, which is to be built on site of the current Engineering Building.
Noteworthy updates on the enabling works are:
- Additional Road closure 23 January: From Monday 23 January the road behind JJ Thomson leading to Maths close for excavation and the laying of cables. Parking will not be possible in the bays along this section road and the IT Services car park will remain closed. The section of road will remain closed for approximately one week. Note that access to the parking bays may be limited for an additional week once the section reopens.
- Engineering Building: The University is in the process of clearing the contents of the Engineering Building in preparation for its pending demolition – more information will follow when available. In addition, district heating pipe work continues in front of the site.
- JJ Thomson: Excavation will be carried out behind JJ Thomson for the laying of cables.
- New structures: Construction of a new radiation store and substation continues, with both builds expected to be completed by the end of January.
Please bear in mind that works are subject to change. Please contact Robert Shankland for more information.
