Student Engagement with Feedback session, Friday 17 February

Better engagement with students can improve responses to feedback.

Colleagues are invited to attend a staff development session focused on the links between student engagement, feedback and assessment. 

 Student Engagement with Feedback takes place on Friday 17 February, 10.00 am – 1.00 pm, Palmer 104. Places can be booked via ESS. As a teachign and learning development programme, it will be particularly useful to colleagues looking at Assessment & Feedback as part of the Curriculum Framework. 

This session will critically examine the position and role of the student in the assessment feedback process. Through surfacing the barriers to student engagement with assessment feedback, the workshop will explore strategies for developing skills of 'proactive recipience' in students. Working with experts, participants will be invited to reflect upon their own practice and practical solutions and strategies will be discussed. 

Facilitators:

Dr Naomi Winstone is a Lecturer in Cognitive and Educational Psychology in the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey. She is also Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Naomi’s research interests focus on cognition and learning, and the application of psychological theory to educational contexts. 

Dr Robert Nash is a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Aston and has published a variety of primary research in this field of psychology. Rob is a Senior Fellow and Academic Associate of the UK’s Higher Education Academy, from whom he has received funding to conduct research on students’ engagement with feedback.
