Technical Services host successful HEaTED networking event

Following the receipt of an endowment fund award from Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell, Technical Services held a successful HEaTED networking event at the University of Reading last week.
HEaTED is a national body that delivers professional development for the technical workforce. Over 90 delegates attended the event, including visitors from universities including King’s College, Bristol, Southampton and Nottingham.
The proceedings began with an introduction to the University’s new Technical Services function by Pro-Vice- Chancellor for Teaching and Learning Professor Gavin Brooks.
Kelly Vere, Higher Education Engagement Manager for the Science Council joined Gavin Brooks in presenting an award from the Science Council CPD to Paul Baker, senior technician in Biology, in recognition of his outstanding application to renew his Registered Technician status.
Dr Eileen Hyder, Academic Developer in CQSD, presented an overview of how the valuable contributions that technical staff make to teaching and learning are recognised and accredited by the Higher Education Academy through the FLAIR scheme.
A showcase was held to highlight facilities across the University supported by Technical Services, including the Cole Museum of Zoology, controlled environment laboratories in Agriculture, Policy and Development, and film and media capabilities in the Minghella Building.
Dr Katherine Forsey, HEaTED Membership & Networks Manager, praised the event, calling it “one of the largest network events HEaTED have held so far”.
