Fairtrade Fortnight: campus events on Wednesday 1 March

Monday, 27 February 2017

Fairtrade Fortnight, Greg Valerio MBE

Greg Valerio, MBE

Today marks the beginning of Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from Monday 27 February – Sunday 12 March.

Over the next two weeks, the University will join local Fairtrade outlets, churches and groups in hosting exciting Fairtrade-focused events, including food and crafts stalls, discussions and public meetings.

On Wednesday 1 March Fairtrade jeweller and environmental campaigner, Greg Valerio MBE, will discuss economics, gold mining, human rights and the environment. Greg has won numerous awards for his commitment to human rights, ecological responsibility and fair trade in the jewellery sector.

The discussion takes place at 1.30pm – 2.30pm in the Chancellor’s Building, Room G06, Whiteknights campus. All staff and students are welcome to attend – advance booking is not required.

Also on Wednesday 1 March, food outlets across the university will offer 20% off all Fairtrade hot drinks when paid for with a campus card – see the attached flier for further details.

Ethical clothing brand Epona will offer a free tote bag with every clothing purchase made on campus during Fairtrade Fortnight – see the attached poster for more.

Plus, campus retailers will also offer special promotions on Fairtrade products –   including a 40g Divine Chocolate bar for just 80p!

There are many other exciting events taking place in Reading over the next two weeks – take a look at the full event programme at www.risc.org.uk/events.

The University of Reading has made great progress against its Fairtrade targets in recent years – all coffee, hot chocolate, orange and apple juice, sugar and bananas available across our campuses are entirely Fairtrade, and we use Fairtrade products in our delivered catering services. We also offer a wide variety of Fairtrade goods from our Campus Central and Merchandise shops.

See our Sustainability Services Fairtrade pages for further information.
