Get singing with Campus Choir and Universal Voices

Wednesday, 15 March 2017

Campus Choir

Many have researched the positive links between singing and wellbeing – research suggests that it can help improve memory and the ability to focus, as well as helping reduce stress and anxiety. It’s also a very sociable activity and can help boost confidence too.

With openings in our Campus Choir and the launch of children’s choir Universal Voices, this might be the perfect time for you – and your little ones – to start singing!

Join the University workplace choir

Campus Choir is opening its doors to new members – it currently has 40 members, around 25 of whom you’ll find singing together on campus each week. It has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with members encouraged to attend when they can.

Describing the choir in their own words, a few members told us:

“I enjoy the choir a huge amount. I’m not very good at singing, but it’s something that I enjoy. The sessions are very relaxing – it’s a lovely group of people, and I find it’s a great way to relieve stress at work!”

‘”I’ve really enjoyed Campus Choir so far – it’s been a great opportunity to take a proper break from work and definitely boosts my morale and sense of community!”

Campus Choir meet in the Van Emden lecture theatre, HumSS (soon to be formally listed as the ‘Edith Morley Building’), 1.00pm - 1:50pm on Thursdays.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of ability, experience, or role at the University. For more information, please email Katie Whaley at music@reading.ac.uk.

IoE launch free children’s choir

The Institute of Education (IoE) is proud to launch Universal Voices, a new community choir for children aged 7–12.

Universal Voices is a community choir free to all children in the Reading area. Working with music education students from the University of Reading, children will develop their singing and musicianship skills through fun, practical rehearsals and high quality performance. Boys and girls will receive specialist vocal training from our tutors.

Starting Thursday 20 April, rehearsals will be held on Thursdays during term time at 4.00pm – 5.15pm, in Building L29, London Road Campus.

Register your children for their free place by contacting Rebecca Berkley on universalvoices@reading.ac.uk.

An online flier can be downloaded for easy reference.
