Professor Robert Jackson appointed Head of Biological Sciences

We are delighted to announce that Professor Robert Jackson has been appointed Head of School for the School of Biological Sciences.

Robert will take on his new role from 1 August 2017, with the appointment contracted for the next six years. He will replace Professor Mark Fellowes, who will continue to act as Head of School until 31 July 2017.

Robert joined the University in 2006 on a lectureship and was promoted to Professor in 2016. He currently acts as a Research Division Leader and Deputy Head of School for Biological Sciences, working alongside Mark Fellowes in leading the direction of the School. 

 Robert specialises in the study of the interaction between microbes and plants. He is an active member of the University’s Microbiology Research Group, with much of his research exploring innovations in plant health.  

Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said:

“Over the past 11 years, Robert has proved himself a valuable asset to the School of Biological Sciences. His humility and expertise in microbiology have earned him great respect amongst his students and peers. Robert has demonstrated great leadership as Deputy Head of School and is a natural fit for its new Head. I congratulate Robert in his well-deserved appointment and look forward to working with him as the new Head of School.”  

On his appointment, Robert said:

“I am delighted to have this opportunity to lead the School of Biological Sciences forward over the next six years. SBS has developed strong foundations in both teaching and research and now is the time to build on these to emphasise our excellence, and reputation.”

A new Deputy Head of School will be appointed in due course.
