The University is delighted to now offer charging facilities for electric vehicles on Whiteknights campus.
Two charging ports have been installed in SportsPark car park, with capacity to charge up to four vehicles at once. The charging points are live and ready for immediate use.
To use the facilities, users will be required to sign up to the Polar network – membership is available on a monthly subscription or on a pay as you go basis (note that the pay as you go scheme carries an admin fee of £1.20 per charge). Electricity will be charged at 15p/kwh for both account types in order to cover the University’s electricity costs.
Users will be able to charge their vehicles for a maximum of four hours per session, so that we may accommodate as many users as possible each day.
The standard parking permit/pay and display policy for the SportsPark car park will continue to apply.
Dan Fernbank, Energy & Sustainability Manager, said: “Installing our first electric vehicle charge points is another important step in our ongoing programme to support more sustainable travel options, and to continually reduce our environmental impacts.
“Electric vehicle technology is developing fast, and makes a big difference in terms of reducing air pollution locally, as well as having a lower overall impact in terms of carbon emissions than more traditional fuels.”
Information event Thursday 4 May
An information event will be held at the SportsPark between 11.00 am – 2.00 pm on Thursday 4 May.
Facilities provider Chargemaster will be on campus to demonstrate use of the charging points and answer any questions you may have – come and take a look to see how the charging system works.
