THRIVE career mentoring to launch postgraduate pilot

Careers are looking to extend their popular THRIVE Career Mentoring scheme out to postgraduate and masters students.

The mentor scheme currently only caters for undergraduates in their penultimate year. Each participant is assigned a professional mentor, who will help their mentee broaden their understanding of the career or profession they intend to enter after graduating. 

It aims to help students prepare for their transition into the professional sector, highlighting the skills and attributes required to stand out in the graduate market. 

THRIVE has seen much growth recently, with over 275 undergraduates taking part in the scheme over the past year. 

As a result of its popularity, the scheme is going to be piloted to postgraduate taught and Master of Research students next year.

Careers plan to pilot the scheme in 5 areas within the University: Economics, Food and Nutritional Sciences, Institute of Education, School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science and School of Agriculture, Policy and Development. Next steps and future plans will be shared at a later date. 

Getting involved 

If you think your first year students could benefit from a clearer sense of career direction and industry knowledge, Careers suggest that they sign up to THRIVE now. The scheme is very popular and early sign up is recommended. Students can express their interest in this short form.
