Professor Vitaliy Khutoryanskiy awarded Honorary Professorship

Professor Vitaliy Khutoryanskiy, Department of Pharmaceutics, has been awarded an Honorary Professorship by Kazan State Medical University (KSMU), Russia.

Vitaliy’s work on ‘sticky’ drug delivery methods first gained international recognition in 2012. KSMU presented the award in recognition of his “outstanding contribution to the development of drug delivery research”. 

On his achievements, Vitaliy said: 

"I am honoured to receive this award, which recognises the research on transmucosal drug delivery conducted by my group in the recent years. I am also very happy to establish very fruitful collaboration with KSMU. This collaboration already resulted in a very good joint publication and I believe that this is just the beginning of a very successful partnership with numerous publications and exchange of visits in both directions”.  

The award of an honorary degree by KSMU follows a close working relationship with the University of Reading for several years which has resulted in several collaborative research projects, including a recent joint peer-reviewed publication by Vitaliy and Dr Rouslan Moustafine, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, KSMU.

The drug delivery research conducted by Vitaliy’s team looked at the development of new materials to help in the administration of drugs and the treatment of wounds. The research focuses on how certain pharmaceutical polymers can ‘stick' to mucosal surfaces, such as that found in the mouth, stomach or on the surface of the eye, allowing new ways to administer drugs.
