Brexit vote: one year on

Friday, 23 June 2017

Brexit vote ÔÇô one year on

It is a year since the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.

Earlier this week, the two sides began a formal negotiation on this. David Davis, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, represented the UK while the European Union was represented by Michel Barnier, the European Commission’s Chief Negotiator.

A Terms of Reference to guide these negotiations has already been agreed.

In February 2017, the UK government published a White Paper setting out its priorities for an exit from, and new partnership with, the European Union.

The European Commission has also published position papers on citizen’s rights and financial settlements on its website.

Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell is a member of the Universities UK Board, and is actively engaged in efforts to ensure that British universities have a vital contribution to make to a successful, dynamic and internationally competitive post-exit United Kingdom.

The University has also established an internal working group on Brexit, chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement, Enzo Raimo. This group will coordinate the University's overall long-term planning related to the UK's exit from the European Union.

To keep the University staff informed of the developments, we have put together a webpage – which will be updated as more information becomes available.
